Wooden hand planes are crafted in our woodshop using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) technology representing a blend of traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. In this setup, CNC machines are used to carve out the intricate shapes and dimensions of the plane bodies from hardwood, ensuring each piece is perfectly aligned and smooth, which is crucial for the tool's functionality. After the CNC process, we hand-finish the planes, sharpening the Hock Tools blade and applying a protective finish. This method not only maintains the aesthetic and tactile qualities of traditional woodworking but also enhances the accuracy and consistency of the planes produced.
