Double-sided yard sign with Proud Union Home and "Local" insignia. Size is approximately 20" x 12" x 2". Live edge may be specified for additional fee. Standard paint scheme is Red and Blue as shown in images. Insignia is not painted since depth of carving often leads to areas being filled in or sanded off during the detail painting. Natural weathering will bring out the difference through the grain over time. A 4 foot by 1 inch diameter hardwood pole is provided and a hole in the bottom of the sign is added for the pole to insert. Poles can be mounted in most umbrella stands available from home stores.
Slab type: Slab types are either standard (squared off edges) or live-edge (rounded edges as naturally found along the edge of the tree used for the sign). Intuitively, it would seem the live-edge requires less work to create and should be cheaper. In practice, a live-edge is more difficult to locate, especially in the right species and size required for a specific sign. It also takes more effort to strip away bark and sand the edge down so it still maintains the shape of the tree and looks natural than if you merely squared it up and cut it. Most sawyers will not take the time to set aside specific slabs for a project and tend to cut a tree to common sizes requested by the market. While live-edge wood is popular, it is a minuscule amount of the wood produced and therefore is not available at the vast majority of hardwood suppliers.
